2012 ANOGUSA Image Awards Recipients

The ANOG Image & Service Award is an honor bestowed on distinguished Nigerians, resident in Georgia, who have projected positive "Image" of Nigerians in their professional and community activities, who have made notable contributions for the advancement their communities, locally and abroad, and who, by their conduct and reputation, have provided a shining example to succeeding generations of Nigerians, home and abroad.

Mrs. Adaeze Susan Ngoddy, Mr. Victor Mbaba and Dr. Abasifreke Ebong have been chosen as the ANOG 2012 Image Award recipients. The three have contributed immensely in their different ways in promoting Nigeria's image both at their professional duties and the community.

Mrs. Adaeze S. Ngoddy was born in Atani Ogbaru local government in Anambra State, Nigeria to the family of Professor and Mrs. Felix Uzoka. As the first of six children she actively assisted parents and grandmother in caring for her siblings during the Nigerian Civil War and even while her parents were abroad attending school in Miami, Florida. She cultivated the love of nurturing children at a very young age. She has been married to Chief Azuka (Akukalia) Ngoddy for thirty-one years. The marriage is blessed with four children—Uche, Amaka, Chi-chi and AJ.
Mrs. Ngoddy’s educational and professional experience include a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from the University of Nigerian Nsukka and a Master’s degree in Geophysics from Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, GA. Mrs. Ngoddy went on to teach mathematics at the high school level in counties all over GA, including Fulton and Crisp County. She currently holds a Child Development Associate Certificate in Early Childhood education and NAC, National Administrator credential. Mrs. Ngoddy and her husband established Rex Childcare and Early Learning Center Inc. located in Rex, GA in 1992. She has since managed the business and designed a unique early childhood curriculum with the specific purpose of creating lifelong learners from the cradle onward. Mrs. Ngoddy is very active in the childcare industry she considers herself not just a childcare provider but an advocate for children. She works tirelessly searching for resources to help families and children. She has offered employment to several Nigerians at her childcare center and helped the new immigrants obtain necessary paperwork that enables them to progress in America.

Every summer she offers at least two teens positions to help Nigerian Youth. Mrs. Ngoddy has served in several capacities in the Southern Crescent Childcare Association for close to twenty years. She has offered her childcare facility to different Nigerian organizations to be used for meeting space free of charge and in turn has had the privilege of seeing this organizations grow and serve the Nigerian community at large.

Mr. Victor Mbaba was orphaned at the age of 11, and out of school for three years in his home country of Nigeria due to civil war. His life lessons have helped him to care for the underprivileged children because they in turn will help make a better world. He is a visionary leader and a Pathfinder who puts in a lot of efforts to serving children in Nigeria and other parts of the world. He is a humble man of repute. He does what it takes to help children and families in need. He believes that People in need can become people who give hope to the needy. He and his organization have done so much for the Nigerian Children through provision of educational materials to support their quest for knowledge; through provision of basic protection and foundational support for children that are neglected by their parents and their community because they are branded witches; and by creating opportunities for professional growth and development of doctors from Nigeria through medical education exchange program which empower them to help the needy in Nigeria. The vision of Africa’s Children’s fund has helped children from all over the West, East, North and South of Nigeria. The vision has spanned all over Africa to Ethiopia, Ghana, Sierra Leone, Liberia, and South Africa.
Mr Victor Mbaba has received numerous Awards and recognitions some of which are:

 The Diet Coke People At the Best Award
 The TBS Pathfinders Award
 The concerned Black Clergy African Diaspora Award
 TV documentary by CNN in 2004 portrayed Mbaba’s work and impact on HIV/AIDS intervention in Africa along with the work of President Nelson Mandela, and President Bill.
 Mbaba is a member of Christ Our Hope Catholic Church in Lithonia. He and his wife, Margaret, are proud parents of three daughters and four sons; Mary, Christine, Emma, Ubong, Itoro, Michael, and Emmanuel.
 He has consistently and effectively raised funds and provided scholarships for a lot of children;
 He has fed children that needed food even here in America;
 He has provided afterschool programs for kids that were in need;
 He has provided school materials for children of all school ages to support their academic growth;
 He has diligently also provided HIV/ health related care for children
 He has collaborated with many other organizations and governments to provide care and show love to children in disaster areas and all over the world.

Introduction: Dr. Abasifreke U. Ebong is an internationally repute solar renewable energy research scientist and consultant. He is currently the Renewable Lead Professor for Energy Production and Infrastructure Center (EPIC) in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, The University of North Carolina at Charlotte. A native of Odiok Itam in Itu Local Government Area, Dr. Ebong is blessed with a lovely wife, Uduak and three brilliant children. He is a devout Christian whose delight is in singing in the choir as well as composing songs.

Education: Professor Ebong obtained his primary education at the Presbyterian School Afaha Itam and his secondary education at Lutheran High School, Obot Idim where he graduated with distinction from both institutions. He holds a B. Sc. in Physics/Electronics from the University of Port Harcourt and a M. Sc. Degree in Solid State Electronics from the same university. In 1990 he was awarded the Australian Government Equity Merit Scholarship to pursue a doctorate degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of New South Wales, Australia, where he obtained his PhD in 1995 with flying colors.

Job History: Professor Ebong has had gainful employment at Post and Telecommunications as Technical Officer, served as an Engineer at Federal Radio Corporation Abuja before joining the faculty of University of Port Harcourt as Assistant Lecturer in Physics. He was promoted Lecturer II in 1988. In September 1997, he joined the University Center of Excellence for Photovoltaic Research and Education (UCEP), Georgia Tech, Atlanta as a research faculty. In 2001 he gained employment with General Electric Global Research Center in New York as Electrical Engineer. While at GE, he developed current spreading model for light emitting diodes (LED), which enhance the evaluations of several conceptual LED designs without actually fabricating them. In 2004 he returned to the UCEP at Georgia Tech as the Assistant Director, responsible for sponsored research in crystalline and amorphous silicon solar cells. Dr. Ebong joined the Faculty of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte as a full Professor in February 2011. He brings more than 20 years experience to his current position as Renewable Energy Lead Professor for EPIC. Over 100 papers in the field of Photovoltaic are credited to his publication.

He is well admired for his ability to balance his family live, service to humanity and spiritual live with his professional callings. He is currently the Chairman, Board of Trustees, Akwa Ibom State Association of Nigeria Atlanta Chapter.
