2009 ANOGUSA Image Awards Recipients

Dr. Azeez AdeduntanCharles Onyirimba Esq and Dr. Alawode Oladele have been chosen as the ANOG 2009 Image Award recipients. The three have contributed immensely in their different ways in promoting Nigeria's image both at their professional duties and the community. Dr. Azeez Popoola Adeduntan is a 1981 graduate of University of Ife Medical School, a Harvard Medical School graduate, a vascular Surgeon and an entrepreneur as well as a kind-hearted philanthropist.

He hails from Ibadan, Oyo State and from Ibadan South west local Government. He won the Federal Government of Nigeria Scholarship for Medicine and proceeded to University of Ife (Now Obafemi Awolowo University) to study Medicine, graduating with distinction in 1981. Dr. Adeduntan came to the United States and attended the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Columbia University, Harlem Hospital Center, New York City, New York till 1993. He also attended Harvard Medical School Boston Massachusetts for fellowship training in Vascular Surgery till 1995. He is a Fellow of American College Of Surgeons (FACS), Fellow International College Of Surgeons(FICS), Member Society for Vascular Surgery(SVS), Society for Clinical Vascular Surgery(SCVS), Peripheral Vascular Society(PVS), Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (SDMS), and has Primary Fellowship of The National Post Graduate Medical College of Nigeria in OB/GYN. He has contributed to knowledge and written many academic papers published in major academic journals. He has served as an Assistant Professor of Surgery, at Morehouse Medical School, Atlanta, Georgia and is currently the President, Chief Executive Officer as well as Medical Director of Victory Vascular & General Surgery of Georgia, P.C.

Dr. Adeduntan has made numerous Contributions/Service to the Nigerian Community in Diaspora: His accomplishments and contributions have been a shining example to succeeding generations of Nigerians at home and in Diaspora. In recognition of his meritorious service to our community, for projecting a positive image of Nigeria, for laying a good foundation, and for being a role model to all of us, it is our pleasure to present to Dr. Azeez Adeduntan the 2009 ANOG Image Award.

CHARLES CHIBUIKE ONYIRIMBA, was born in Umudike Umueze II, in Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State, Nigeria. Before "Coming to America" in 1981, Onyirimba founded and served as the first President of Umueze II Academic Union and Youths Against Corruption from 1979 to 1981.

He received his Bachelors degree in Political Science and Journalism from the Oklahoma State University State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma in December 1984. He received his graduate and Doctor of Law Degree from the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida in 1987.

In 1993, Atty. Onyirimba was overwhelmingly elected President of the Igbo Union, Atlanta, USA. In this capacity, Atty. Onyirimba united all thirty two organizations of Igbo origin in Atlanta. In his second year as President of Igbo Union, Atty. Onyirimba launched the first phase of 1.5 million dollar Igbo Culture Centre in Atlanta. In 1994, Atty. Onyirimba and other Igbo leaders in American founded the World Igbo congress headquartered in Houston, Texas. The World Igbo Congress is the main political umbrella of all Igbo organizations in America and rest of the World. Atty. Onyirimba served as the first Chairman, Membership Recruitment and Mobilization Committee of World Igbo Congress.

 

In 1999, Atty. Onyirimba founded and became the President of the African American Lawyers Association in Atlanta, Georgia USA. Atty. Onyirimba is the Principal of the Law Office of Onyirimba & Associates, P.C. in Atlanta Georgia, President of Onyirimba Communications, Inc. Atlanta Georgia. Publisher of The African Quest Magazine and Host of The African Quest Television, based in Atlanta Georgia. The African Quest has been instrumental in promoting the image of Nigeria and Africa in America.

Atty. Charles Chibuike Onyirimba serves on the Board of many organizations such as The African Trade Center, The American Nigerian International Chambers of Commerce; The African Chamber of Commerce, the Boreholes for Africa and Nicore. Charles Chibuike Onyirimba is a Poet and devoted Christian and a community activist. He has received various commendations and awards from the Nigerian Government, Civic Organizations and Community groups for his community activism and philanthropy and from the Georgia State Secretary of State.

Dr. Alawode Oladele was born in Ogbomosho, Oyo State, Nigeria. He has an MD and a Masters of Public Health, and did his internship, residency and fellowship at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia. He currently works in Public Health and International Health, and is the Medical Director of County Wide Services at the DeKalb County Board of Health in the State of Georgia. He is the CEO and President of Premiere International Health Care Inc., with several HIV and community health projects in West Africa, East and Central Africa. In addition he works with numerous US based and international organizations including Physicians for Human Rights, the International Association of Physicians in AIDS Care, and the Global Initiative for AIDS Nutritional Therapy.

Some of his other areas of interests include working on social justice issues (including but not limited to: economic development; community development; environmental justice; human rights; human development; and social change).

Dr. Alawode Oladele is member, Board of Directors of MedShare International and established One million dollar medical assistance program to Nigeria, in 2006, donated to the Federal Ministry of Health, Nigeria. He has been involved in numerous Humanitarian and volunteer work for the betterment of our community. These include Volunteer Physician for Physician's Care Clinic, a clinic in DeKalb

County for the indigent, Volunteer Physician: Physicians for Human Rights Asylum Network, Volunteer Physician: Medical evaluation of asylum seekers in Atlanta, Georgia.He initiated the " Public Health Student Adopt a Refugee Family" Program in DeKalb County in 1999. Physician volunteer 1996 Olympic Games, 1996 Paralympic Games, Refugee Youth Mentoring and Tutorial Program in DeKalb County (1999 to present), Coordinator of Yearly International Community Christmas Gift Drive (1996 to present) and Coordinator of Yearly International Community Health Fair (1997 to present).

Dr. Alawode Oladele is Sponsor and Supporter of Women of hope Project (Messiah Foundation) which provides free medical consultation and drugs for those infected with HIV/AIDS in Jos, Nigeria. He is a recipient of The Nigeria Consulate’s Appreciation Award, in December 2002. His accomplishments and contributions have been a shining example to succeeding generations of Nigerians at home and in diaspora. In recognition of his meritorious service to our community, for projecting a positive image of Nigeria, for laying a good foundation, and for being a role model to all of us, it is our pleasure to present to Dr. Alawode Oladele the 2009 ANOG Image Award.
